Divider Pages

Divider Pages are highly flexible pages which used for big lists of weblinks. Structurally, they are highly flexible pages which allow you to present your links in a number of different formats, for a number of different purposes.

Originally, the Divider Pages were simply hard-coded BodyCopy fields with links in a complicated table structure. That use has been phased out, and today the Divider Page types are dynamically generated by the pages they point to.

General rules for Divider pages

There are different navigational schemes for divider pages, but they all basically have the same features. They can point to a list of links with headings, or point to a list of links without headings. They can display with one, two, or four columns. Some can display with six columns. Some divider types can even display with thumbnail images.

The following fields will need to be added to older Divider types:

BodyNavigation Navigation component Point to "subtree" Subtree
FolderNamesAsHeadings text set this to "yes" if you want to display headings. Set to "no" to not display headings. In the case of Link Group Dividers, the headings will be generated by the Link Group Headline fields, not by any folders anywhere. yes or no
NumberOfColumns text Set this to the number of columns you wish to display. Usually options are 1, 2, or 4.

Navigational schemes for Dividers

1. Contextual Dividers (text):
Contextual Divider pages point to their children and/or grandchildren. They can display headings by use of enclosing folders. The listings of the heading correspond to the contents of the folders.

For this setup, you will need the following elements:

BodyNavigation Navigation component Subtree
NumberofColumns text 1, 2, or 4
FolderNamesAsHeadings text yes or no
Layout   DividerLinksPage.xsl
Suggestions An email address for people to suggest further links (optional) a valid email address

2. Link-Group Dividers

These will display links from all over the Bates site, indeed from all over the world. They are built by means of Link Groups. Each category is built by one link group. The source pages will display their name and "RolloverText" fields.

For each link group, your divider page needs to have a BodyLinkList element of type XPowerComponent (gear icon).

Other elements:
NumberofColumns: 1, 2, or 4
FolderNamesAsHeadings: yes or no
will display the Headline field from the LinkGroup components
Stylesheet: DividerLinksPage.xsl
Suggestions: An email address for people to suggest further links (optional)
