Adding Left Side Navigation Links with Link Groups

The left side navigation links are most often generated by the Navigation-Page: set to either “Children” or “Siblings” In addition, or if navigation is set to "none” other links to xml and non-xml pages may be added. This process is accomplished by adding Link Groups.

Located in the Content Store, under Shared Internal Components, are the existing Link Groups (both Internal and External) already built and ready to be reused.

If the Link Group is already created:

Your new link group appears below the maroon line, after any children (or sibling) links.

If you wish to create a new Link Group consisting of XML pages from the Content Store:

Click and drag into the Link boxes the xml page(s) from the content store you wish to add, in the order they should appear on the text page to which the group will be finally added.

To add more link boxes to the group:

If you are done creating links, reopen the page the navigation was created for, click and drag the new link group to the Navigation-Links:

Creating External Links (any non-xml page) to be part of Link Groups:

Additional Navigation-Links boxes can be added to the Group.

As always, please remember to save your work, preview it, check it in, and mark for publish those items ready to go live!
Please be sure to refer to the webguide http://abacus.bates.edu/webguide/reference/components/linkgroup.html for additional policies and practices.
