ICMS - INSTRUCTIONS TO FIX A TYPO IN A BATES NOW STORY ÊÊDraft version 0.1



- Open Windows > Desktop > Internet Explorer

- Type cms.bates.edu/bates

Optional: if you need to log in, use your network id and password.


[THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN THE LEFT PANEL]

- Click on plus button next to Bates Site Folder

- Click on plus button next to Bates Now

- Click on plus button next to Bates Now, again

- Click on plus button next to CURRENT news

- Click on separator bar, and drag to the right to make list more visible

- Click on story name

- Right click on story name

- Select Check Out and click

- At this point, the story name icon is now blue, to let you know it's checked out


[THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR THE RIGHT PANE]

- Scroll down until you see BodyCopy

- Increase the size of the BodyCopy editing box DOWN so it's bigger.

- Scroll to the place where you want to make the change.

- Make the change.


[THE FOLLOWING ARE IN THE LEFT PANEL]

- Right click on the story name

- Click on Preview

- Click Yes on "Do you want to save your changes"


[THE FOLLOWING IS IN THE PREVIEW WINDOW]

- Deselect "Show all pages"

- Close the window (X box)


[EITHER MAKE MORE CHANGES FOLLOWING THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS, OR CONTINUE IN THE LEFT PANEL]

- Right click on the story name

- Select Check In

- Right click on the story name

- Select Publish

[IN PUBLISHING WINDOW]

- Click on bates website

- Click on Incremental

- When dialog box says "The Publish requests were successfully submitted." click Ok.


[PAGE IS QUEUED TO PUBLISH. TO CHECK IF IT IS, DO THE FOLLOWING]

- Write down x-number next to right panel Page name.

- Open any Web browser

- After http://www.bates.edu/, enter the x-number, then type .xml.


[IF THE UPDATED PAGE CONTENT APPEARS, GREAT GO GET A CUP OF COFFEE.

IF NOT, IT MAKE TAKE UP TO HALF AN HOUR FOR THE PAGE TO APPEAR.

IN THE MEANTIME, IF YOU WANT TO VERIFY THE UPDATED PAGE CONTENT, DO THE FOLLOWING]

- In the Web browser address bar, replace www with cms, for example:

- http://www.bates.edu/x176960.xml

- http://cms.bates.edu/x176960.xml

[IF YOU SEE THE UPDATE AT CMS., THEN WAIT UP TO HALF AN HOUR. IF THE UPDATED PAGE DOESN'T APPEAR AT WWW WITHIN HALF AN HOUR, CALL THE HELP DESK AT X8222, X1, REPORT THE PROBLEM, AND ASK FOR AN INCIDENT NUMBER.]
