SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- The Bates College women's cross country team placed among the top-two teams for the fourth time in five meets this season, taking second at the State of Maine championship meet.

The Bobcats' top finisher for the third week in a row was first-year runner Abby Anthony (Kingstown, R.I.), who placed fourth overall in 19:57. Classmate Leah Drew (Chicago, Ill.) narrowly missed All-State honors, placing eighth in 20:19. Senior Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.) finished 12th, two spots ahead of last season's No. 2 runner at the State meet, Katie Parker (Williamstown, Mass.). Senior Kate Kenoyer (Whitefield, Maine) rounded out the Bates scoring in 16th place. The Bobcats' second-place finish is up two spots from a year ago, and matching their finish in 1997, the last time the Bobcats went to the NCAA championships.
