CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Bates College women's cross country team placed ninth at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships held at Hamilton College here today.

The Bobcats were led by first-year runner Abigail Anthony (Kingstown, R.I.) who placed 21st overall and sixth among first-year runners with a time of 18:51 for the 5K course. Classmate Leah Drew (Chicago, Ill.) and senior Kate Kenoyer (Whitefield, Maine) finished second and third fot the Bobcats with identical times of 19:46. Senior Jessica Young (Thetford, Vt.) and junior Katie Parker (Williamstown, Mass.) rounded out the Bobcats' scoring, also finishing together with times of 20:12.

The Bobcats' ninth-place finish was two-spot improvement from last season. Bates will take part in the ECAC Championship meet next weekend and attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III championships as a team at the regional championships on Nov. 13.
