BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bates College women's cross country team remained undefeated on the season by defeating CBB rival Bowdoin, 26-30, on the Polar Bears home turf.

Although Bowdoin produced the race's winner, the Bobcats placed all of their top five runners within one minute of each other for the first time in recent memory. First-year runner Abby Anthony (Kingstown, R.I.) led for much of the race before teammate Katie Parker (Williamstown, Mass.) and Bowdoin's Victoria Shen passed her in the final 100 meters of the the 5K race. Also making an impact in her first collegiate race was first-year Leah Drew (Chicago, Ill.), who finished in fourth place overall, three seconds ahead of Bowdoin's number two runner. After Bowdoin finished their second through fourth runners, the Bobcat seniors helped clinch the victory. Kate Kenoyer (Whitefield, Maine) and Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.) finished one second apart in eighth and nith place, but it was co-captain Jess Young (Thetford, Vt.), who passed the Polar Bear's No. 5 runner in the final 50 meters of the race who solidified the Bobcat victory. The Bobcats travel to Grafton, Mass., next week for the prestigious Codfish Bowl race.
