Quad Cup IV
at Merrill Gym

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's track and field team broke the 100 point barrier for the first time this season as the Bobcats took third place in the Challenge Cup IV meet held in Merrill Gyumnasium today.

The Bobcats were led bu a big day from junior Erika Bristol (Pittsfield, Mass.), who picked up her first career win in the 20-pound weight throw with toss of 44 feet, 3.5 inches, beating her previous personal best by two feet. Bristol also placed second in the shot put and the 55-meter hurdles, setting personal records in both those events as well.

Other top performers for the Bobcats included junior Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.), who qualified for the New England Division III championships later this month in the 1,000- and 3,000-meter runs. Her time of 11:21.02 in the 3,000 was the first time she had competed in the event. First-year jumper Anya Belanger (Millbridge) won the triple jump for the second time this season with a jump of 34 feet, 5 3/4 inches, increasing her lifetime best by nearly a foot and a half. Junior 1,500m runner Tracy Lyford (Portsmouth, N.H.) and first-year hurdler Kathryn Ramer (Riverside, Conn.) also qualified for the New England championships.
