BATES PLACES SIXTH AT QUAD CUP II

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates College women's track and field team placed sixth in their second quad cup meet of the season at Tufts University. A majority of the Bobcats' points came in the field events. Their top event was the 20-pound weight throw, where the Bobcats took second, fourth and sixth place. Senior captain Kate Osborne (Sandy Hook, Conn.) placed second with a throw of 40' 1/4", qualifying her for the ECAC and Open New England championships. First-year Anya Belanger (Millburn, Maine) took second in the high jump with a leap of 4' 9 1/2", earning a berth at the ECACs and the New England Division III championships, while also placing sixth in the triple jump. Classmate Leah McDonald (Charleston, W. Va.) took fourth place in the 600-meter dash, earning a spot at the New England Div. III championships, while junior Erika Bristol (Pittsfield, Mass.) took seventh in the 55-meter hurdles, but qualified for the ECAC and NE Div. III championships with a time of 9.40 in the preliminaries. Bristol also took seventh in the shot put.
