BATES WOMEN TAKE THIRD AT USM

GORHAM, Maine -- Competing shorthanded in their first scoring meet of the season, the Bates women's track team took third with 110 points in a quad meet with Southern Maine (172), MIT (141) and Coast Guard (100).

The Bobcats won two events on the afternoon. First-year field hockey standout Johie Farrar (West Paris, Maine) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.71. Farrar also took third in the 55-meter dash in 7.80 seconds. Senior Erika Bristol (Williamstown, Mass.) took the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 46-11 1/2, while also claiming second in the shot put.

Bates also produced two other second-place finishes, with first-year Abby Anthony (Jamestown, R.I.) taking second in the 3,000-meter run in 10:41.18, while senior Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.) placed second in the 1,500 (5:18.74).
