The Bobcats scored seven points and finished in a tie for ninth place, matching their best finish ever at the NEWITT Tournament, which came in 1986. The Bobcats have improved their standings for each of the past four seasons. Three Bobcats reached the quarterfinal rounds of their respective draws. In No. 2 singles, junior Jen Russo (Titusville, N.J.) received a bye out of the first round. She had little trouble with her second-round opponent from Colby-Sawyer, winning 6-2, 6-0, before losing to the eventual champion from Williams in the quarters. The double tandem of first-year player Talbott Randall (Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomore Mary Dorman (Holden, Mass.) were the only Bobcats to win more than one match in the tournament. Dorman and Randall breezed by Goodman and Ginsburg from Connecticut College in the first round, 8-1, and were tested by Springfield's Briggs and Sane in the second before prevailing, 8-6, before falling to the No. 3 seed, Johnson and Hughes from Trinity, 8-4. The Bobcats ended their fall season with a 3-4 record in dual matches. They will compete in the spring in the Maine State championships and have dual matches with Springfield and Mt. Holyoke on the docket to try and finish above .500 for the third year in a row under coach John Illig.
