NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Coach John Illig led the women's squash team to its highest finish in school history this season. The Bobcats finished 10th in the nation, earning runner-up status in the B flight of the Howe Cup championships at Yale University. Bates downed rival Bowdoin for the third time this season in the opening round, 8-1, before narrowly defeating St. Lawrence University in the semifinals, 5-4. The Bobcats fell in the finals of the bracket, losing to the University of Pennsylvania, 8-1.

Against Bowdoin, Bates breezed to the victory with six of their eight wins including at least one 9-0 game, highlighted by a perfect sweep from senior captain Jess Greslick (Windham, Maine) at No. 9. In the St. Lawrence match, the Bobcats trailed, 4-3, with two matches to play. Senior captain and All-American Aisha Shah (Bombay, India) fell behind at No. 1, two games to one, but rallied to take the final two games, 9-1 and 9-4. With the match evened up, junior Katie Percarpio (Middlebury, Conn.) secured the victory at No. 7. Percarpio needed tiebreakers to win the first two games, 10-9, but won 9-3 in the third to send Bates to the finals against Pennsylvania. The Bobcats had defeated a short-handed Penn squad earlier in the season, but the Quakers at full strength proved to be too much for the Bobcats. First-year Liz Wagoner (Peterborough, N.H.) picked up Bates' lone victory in the final match, completing the Bobcats' only perfect weekend of the tournament.
