WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates College women's squash team played one of their best three-day stretches of the season this weekend at the Williams College Invitational. The Bobcats won four of their six matches and improved their Women's Squash Racquets Association national ranking to No. 12 in the country.

Included in the fine showing at the invitational was a 5-4 win over Amherst, the program's first ever. The match was highlighted by a comeback performance from No. 1 player Aisha Shah (Bombay, India), who dropped the first games of the match 4 and 2 before rallying to win the next three games, including 9-4 in the decisive fifth game. While Shah went 4-2 at the Invitational, Two Bates players posted 5-1 marks. Senior co-captain Mary Ellen Hennessey (Manchester, N.H.) lost only to the host Ephs at No. 4 while going 15-1 in her other five matches Classmate Lori Buffum (Milford, N.H.) captured all but one match at No. 8., including a 9-1, 9-0, 9-1 win over her foe from Connecticut College.
