Wellesley, MA -- Junior forward Kate O'Malley (Deephaven, Minn.) scored a pair of goals to lead Bates College (10-7) to a 2-0 win over Gordon College (18-4-1) in the championship game of the ECAC Division III New England Women's Soccer Tournament at Babson College.

O'Malley, who was named tournament MVP after scoring three goals in the tournament, helped Bates win the ECAC Championship for the third time in school history (1986, 1991). The junior opened the scoring at 16:22, converting a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Val Rosenberg (Oakland, N.J.) for a 1-0 Bobcat lead. The margin remained 1-0 until 61:32, when O'Malley scored on a penalty kick to account for the 2-0 final for coach Jim Murphy's squad. The Bobcats finished the season with their first three-game winning streak of the year.

Bates goalie Suzie Arnold (Falmouth, Mass.) made seven saves in goal to post her third shutout of the season. Gordon keeper Sara Baker (Waterville, VT) made nine stops in a losing effort. Gordon finished the year with a school-record 18 wins under coach Marc Whitehouse. Two of the Scots' four losses this season came at the hands of Bates.
