BATES HALTS UNE'S WIN STREAK WITH 4-0 BLOWOUT

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bates College senior Kate O'Malley (Deephaven, Minn.) scored just 1:23 into the match to close in on a pair of school records as the Bobcats (6-4) ended the University of New England Nor'easters (11-3-1) 10-game winning streak, 4-0.

O'Malley, who needs just one point and two goals to match the school's career mark in each category, later assisted the first of two first-half goals by fellow co-captain Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.). The first-year combination of halfback Christy Deysher (Wilton, N.H.) and forward Denise Purpura combined to score the final goal in the 89th minute.

First-year goalkeeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) earned her fourth career shutout with two saves, while UNE's Becky Brown had 17 stops in the losing effort.
