TUFTS TOP BATES, 2-1, IN OVERTIME

LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year forward Elizabeth Tooley (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes in the first overtime as the Tufts University Jumbos (4-2-1) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (3-3) on Lafayette Street Field today.

The Bobcats got on the board first in the 39th minute as first-year forward Denise Purpura (Framingham, Mass.) scored her first career goal on an assist from junior midfielder Val Rosenberg (Oakland, N.J.). The Jumbos tied the score just before the first half expired, as sophomore forward Lynn Cooper (Wilton, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the season with three seconds left on the clock. The second half was scoreless, but Tufts picked up the win on Tooley's goal, assisted by classmate Adi Sherwood (Woodinville, Wash.).

Tufts junior Randee McArdle (East Nassau, N.Y.) picked up the win with 11 saves, while Bates first-year keeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) had 12 stops in the losing effort.
