BATES WOMEN'S SOCCER ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH 2-2 TIE AT COLBY

(Taken from a Colby College Press release)

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates and Colby women's soccer teams battled back and forth for 120 minutes Saturday but neither team was able to come away with a victory as the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.

Bates got things rolling at 10:22 with a goal from senior forward Kate O'Malley (Deephaven, Minn.), the 50th of her career, off an assist from teammate Tania Riismandel (Ellicott City, Md.). Senior halfback Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.), sister of the White Mules' Stacy Thurston, made it 2-0 Bates at 25:43 on an assist from O'Malley, but Colby refused to go away. First-year forward Christine O'Donnell (Salem, Mass.) netted her school-record 13th goal of the season and her fifth in the last three games just six minutes later to chip away at the Bates lead. Steph Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) tied the game for Colby at 59:44 in the second half. The teams battled for the next 60 minutes with neither able to break through.

Colby finished the regular season at 7-5-2, while the Bobcats are 8-5-1. The teams will learn if they will compete in the postseason on Sunday or Monday.
