BATES BLANKS SOUTHERN MAINE, 3-0,
IN RUSSELL STREET FIELD DEBUT

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior goalkeeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) made seven saves in recording her 13th career shutout as the host Bobcats (3-1) blanked the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies (3-3) in their first game on the new Russell Street Field.

Bates got all the scoring they would need with just three minutes left in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Ariel Hirschberg (W, Newton, Mass.) launched a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and onto the head of first-year forward Katie Carroll (Pennington, N.J.), who scored her third goal of the season. The Bobcats added another insurance goal early in the second half when senior Amanda Waterhouse (Cumberland, Maine) sent a pass to classmate Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.), who one-timed a pass to the head of sophomore Becky Castle (Stonington, Conn.) for her first goal of the campaign.

Waterhouse and Dockery combined for a goal for the third time this season in the 74th minute on another cross pass from Waterhouse that Dockery sent to the upper left corner of the net past USM rookie goalkeeper Marcy Ansley (Hudson, Mass.). Ansley and sophomore Rachel Kwantz (Wiscasset, Maine) combined to make 10 saves for the Huskies.
