BATES RECORDS FOURTH STRAIGHT SHUTOUT, 2-0
Bobcats down Simmons under the lights

BOSTON, Mass. -- Bates College goalkeeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) made seven saves as the Bobcats tied a school record with their fourth straight shutout, 2-0, over the Simmons College Sharks in Boston under the lights Wednesday night.

Martell helped Bates (6-1) tie the team record set in 1987 and equaled in 1994. The Bobcats got off to another fast start, as junior midfielder Melissa Ostuni (Lynnefield, Mass.) took a pass from sophomore midfielder Meredith Katter (Sudbury, Mass.) and blasted it over the goalkeeper's head less than four minutes into the contest. The goal was Ostuni's second of the season and marked the second straight time Bates scored in the first five minutes of the game. The Bobcats scored an insurance goal 15 minutes into the second half when sophomore back Catherine Crosby (Lincoln, Mass.) hit the upper right corner off a pair of one-touch passes from Ostuni and senior Amanda Waterhouse (Cumberland, Maine). Waterhouse's assist was her seventh of the season.
