LATE GOAL LIFTS BATES PAST GORDON, 2-1, IN THE RAIN

WENHAM, Mass. -- The Bates College women's soccer team fought the elements and the Gordon College Fighting Scots to claim a 2-1 nonconference victory.

After falling behind in the 25th minute, the Bobcats scored the equalizer exactly one minute later, as sophomore Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) scored her third goal of the season. Neither team was able to establish a solid advantage in the steady rain until the late stages, when sophomore Melissa Ostuni (Lynnfield, Mass.) took a feed from classmate Christy Deysher (Wilton, N.H.), scoring the game-winner in the 86th minute. Bates goalie Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) made nine saves for the win.
