Trinity 15, Bates 4

The Trinity College Bantams (7-0), the No. 3 team in the latest Brine/USWILA polls, defeated the Bates College Bobcats (1-3) by a score of 15-4 in Bates' home opener. The game was tied at 3-3 with just under eight minutes remaining in the second half after Bates sophomore Nina Pickering (Kennebunkport, Maine) knocked in a rebound laying in front the crease. Trinity regained the lead less than 30 seconds later on an unassisted goal from senior Ashley Knowles (Pittsburgh, Pa.). The Bantams went on to score four more goals before halftime to take an 8-3 lead into the half. Trinity senior Jen Martinelli (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored four of her game-high five goals in the second as the Bantams pulled away, outscoring the Bobcats 7-1 in the frame. Junior goalkeeper 'Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) had 16 saves in the losing effort for Bates, while Trinity sophomore Kate Derosier (Longmeadow, Mass.) had 12 for the Bantams. Bates plays Connecticut College tomorrow at noon, while Trinity travels north to face 10th-ranked Colby College.
