Ithaca 12, Bates 8

The Bobcats (1-1) playing their second game in as many days, lost a tough game to a more expereinced Ithaca College (4-1) team, 12-8. Bates stayed close to the Bombers, NCAA qualifiers a year ago, answering the first two Ithaca goals with two of their own from leading scorer Amanda Schall (Chevy Chase, Md.) and first-year defender Sarah McGrath (Middlebury, Vt.). Ithaca scored twice in a span of 12 seconds to reopen a 4-2 lead, but sophomore Blaine Hudson (Madison, Conn.) and Schall answered again to tie the score. The Bombers' scored the last two goals of the first half and the first two in the second half, providing what proved to be the margin of victory. Trailing 10-5 with just under 10 minutes remaining, the Bobcats climbed back into the game, scoring three of the next four goals, including two by first-year attack Abby Lusardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) 1:15 apart to cut the lead to 11-8, but Ithaca was able to hold the Bobcats off over the final three minutes. Junior goalkeeper 'Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) played the whole game and made 13 saves.
