Hartwick 13, Bates 5
LEWISTON, Maine - The Bates College women's lacrosse team (2-5) dropped a
13-5 decision to Hartwick College (10-2) here today. The Hawks, ranked
eighth in the nation in the most recent Brine/USWILA Division III women's
lacrosse polls, scored three goals in the first six minutes of the game.
Bates scored the next two, cutting the lead to 3-2 on a goal by
first-year attack Jess Roll (Arlington, Mass.), but would not score in the
final 20 minutes as Hartwick opened up a 9-2 lead at the half, led by
junior attack Sarah Bamberger (Mattydale, N.Y.), who scored three of her
first game-high four goals in the first half. The Bobcats played tighter
defense in the second half, but could not get any closer. Junior
goalkeeper Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) made six saves in the loss, while
sophomore Sue Ketcham (Garden City, N.Y.) made 12 for the Hawks. Four of
the Bobcats' five losses have come at the hands of teams in the
top 20 nationally in Division III.
