Bates 9, Connecticut College 8

The Bates College women's lacrosse team (2-3) rallied from deficits of 6-0 and 7-1 to defeat the Connecticut College Camels (3-3) by a score of 9-8. The Camels got off to a quick start thanks to two goals and two assists from junior Alicia Doughty (West Scarsdale, N.Y.) in the first 12 minutes of the game. Conn. College senior Anna Stanicoff (Washington, D.C.) scored the next three goals, sandwiched around the Bobcats' first tally by junior co-captain Molly McMahon (Cumberland, Maine) as the Camels went up 7-1 with seven minutes left in the first half. The Bobcat defense improved and allowed just one Conn. College goal the rest of the way. The Bobcats scored three times in the final 4 minutes of the first half including an underhand shot by first-year player Jess Roll (Arlington, Mass.) with 17 seconds left to take momentum into the break, despite being down 7-4.

In the second half, Bates junior goalie 'CIl Bloomfield (Exter, N.H.) was outstanding, making 10 of her 16 saves, including four on 8-meter opportunities. First-year player Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) was the offensive catalyst, scoring two goals and an assist in the second half, including the eventual game-winner with 12:46 left in the game. Conn. College scored with 7:02 remaining in the game to snap a 30 minute scoreless streak and eight unanswered goals by Bates, but they were unable to get anything else past Bloomfield.
