BATES WOMEN'S LAX HANDS ST. MICHAEL'S COLLEGE 12-8 LOSS

COLCHESTER, Vt. -- Bates College sophomore midfielder Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) scored three goals to lead the Bobcats past Division II St. Michael's College today, 12-8.

After the Saints scored the first two goals of the game, Flynn answered with two of her own, tying the game at the 22:48 mark of the first half. The Bobcats took control of the action from there, taking the lead for good on senior Abby Fierman's (Newton Centre, Mass.) tally with 16:35 left in the first.

After building a 5-2 lead at the half, Bates opened the second stanza with a 3-1 run, taking an 8-3 lead with 10:17 to play on a goal by senior Julie Lundman (Worhtington, Ohio). SMC twice cut the Bates lead to three goals, at 10-7 and 11-8, but the Bobcats held on for the win behind six saves by senior Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.). Bates improves its record to 3-1 over Division II opponents. The defeat was the first of the season for St. Michael's, the 10th ranked team in the nation in the most recent Brine/IWLCA Div. II poll. The Saints fall to 6-1.
