BATES WOMEN'S LAX NOTCHES 17-2 WIN OVER PLYMOUTH STATE

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore midfielder Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) scored four goals and first-year attack Liz Stefany (Hopkinton, N.H.) had three tallies off the bench as the Bates College Bobcats (3-5) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 17-2 victory over the visiting Plymouth State College Panthers (8-3).

Flynn scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Bobcats built an 8-2 advantage in the first stanza. After Plymouth State junior captain Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, N.H.) scored the second of her two goals at the five minute mark of the first half, Bates senior goalkeeper Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) kept the Panthers off the board for the final 35 minutes, registering eight of her 14 saves in the second stanza. Plymouth sophomore Lisa Goldberg (Newton, Mass.) made 25 saves in the losing effort.

In addition to Flynn's four goals, the Bobcats also got a four-point performance from sophomore Jen Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.), who had two goals and two assists. First-year attacker Liz Coulson (Devon, Pa.) and senior Abby Fierman (Newton Centre, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist for the Bobcats. The win marked the first time that Bates coach Wynn Hohlt has defeated PSC, whom she coached for six seasons prior to arriving at Bates.
