BATES WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO COLBY, 13-6

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby College women's lacrosse team broke a 4-4 tie with five unanswered goals late in the first half on its way to a 13-6 win over Bates College on Tuesday afternoon. The victory improves the White Mules' record to 8-5, while the Bobcats drop to 5-7.

Bates took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by first-year Liz Coulson (Devon, Penn.) and sophomore Jennifer Sall (Gladwyne, Penn.), but Colby responded with four straight tallies to take a 4-2 lead midway through the first half. The Bobcats then rallied to even things at 4-4, as junior Blaine Hudson (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) each recorded goals, setting up Colby's five goal outburst that gave the Mules a 9-4 edge heading into halftime.

Colby increased its lead to 10-4 on a goal by first-year Marcia Ingraham (Georgetown, Mass.) less than two minutes into the second half, but Coulson pulled the Bobcats back to within five with her second goal of the day at 24:25. After the two teams traded goals, seniors Allison Birdsong (Greenwich, Conn.) and Kristina Stahl (Farmington, Conn.) each scored for Colby, capping off the final home game of their careers and giving the Mules the 13-6 victory.

First-year Mary Zito (Manhasset, N.Y.) was once again solid in net for the Mules, making 14 saves to pick up the win. First-year Jen Strahle (Ridgewood, N.J.) and senior Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) combined to stop nine shots in the losing effort for the Bobcats.
