BATES WOMEN'S LACROSSE TOPS DIVISION II BENTLEY, 15-6, IN FIRST GAME UP NORTH WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior attacker Amanda Schall (Chevy Chase, Md.) and sophomore Jen Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.) each tallied four goals as the Bates College Bobcats (1-1) picked up their first win of the season, 15-6, over Division II Bentley College (0-2) here tonight. Bates established an early 4-1 lead on a goal by sophomore Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) just under 10 minutes into the game. The Falcons cut the lead to 4-3 over the next eight minutes, but Schall scored four of Bates' seven goals over the final 11 minutes of the first half as the Bobcats took a seven-goal advantage into the lockerroom, 12-5. The Bates defense took over in the second half, allowing just two shots on first-year goalkeeper Maria Sparks (Marblehead, Mass.). Sparks made four saves in picking up her first collegiate victory. Senior midfielder Julie Lundman (Worthington, Ohio) added three goals and two assists in just her second game after a year abroad, while coach Wynn Hohlt recorded her first lacrosse win at Bates.
