BATES WOMEN'S LAX TOPS BABSON, 19-5,
TO WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College sophomore Carrie Smith (Chevy Chase, Md.) recorded her third consecutive eight-point game today as the Bobcats (3-1) defeated the Babson College Beavers (0-2) by a 19-5 score this afternoon.

Smith, who scored two goals and dished six assists, opened the scoring just 1:42 into the contest and assisted Bates' second goal at the 5:25 mark, feeding junior Liz Lawler (Dublin, N.H.). Sophomore Becky Castle (Stonington, Conn.) scored one of her game-high five goals just 18 seconds later.

Babson sophomore Sarah Siciliano (Newton, Mass.) got the Beavers on the scoreboard 8:40 in, but the Beavers went on a 20-minute scoring drought. Bates scored nine unanswered goals before Siciliano scored again as the Bobcats led 12-3 at halftime.

Smith added four of her six assists in the second half. Smith had six goals and two assists against Bridgewater State last Sunday and four goals and four assists Tuesday against Southern Maine. In addition to Smith (2G, 6A), Castle (5G, 1A), and Lawler (3G), senior co-captain Liz Coulson (Devon, Pa.) also had a big day with four goals and two assists for six points.

Junior midfielder Ashley Andre (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led Babson with two goals and an assist for three points. Siciliano (2G) and rookie Alexis Rad (Upper Brookville, N.Y.), who had one goal, also scored for the Beavers.

Bates senior goalkeeper Jen Strahle (Ridgewood, N.J.) made five saves in 57 minutes of action, while Babson rookie Margaret Schlachter (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had eight stops in the losing effort.
