NO. 3 AMHERST DROPS BATES, 19-6

LEWISTON, Maine — The Amherst College Lord Jeffs, ranked third in the nation, completed a 2-0 road trip to Maine today, defeating the host Bates College Bobcats, 19-6, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Campus Ave. Field today.

Bates (7-4, 3-4 NESCAC) scored the first goal of the game less than three minutes in, but Amherst (9-1, 6-1 NESCAC) scored the next two goals . The Lord Jeffs led 6-3 at the half and never trailed agaib. Bates scored first in second half, but Amherst scored six unanswered to take a 12-4 lead less than 10 minutes into the second half and never looked back.

Amherst junior attack Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, Md.) each scored a game-high seven goals. Ouimet also had a game-high five assists and 12 points. Bates sophomore attack Becky Castle (Stonington, Conn.) had two goals for the Bobcats, while sophomore midfiedler Carrie Smith (Chevy Chase, Md.) had two assists.
