BATES WOMEN'S LAX WINS HOME OPENER, 23-3
LEWISTON, Maine Bates College senior Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) scored her 100th career point on an assist 10 minutes into the contest as the Bobcats won their home opener, 23-3, over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies.
Bates (4-0) scored the first two goals of the game before Southern Maine (1-2) got on the board just under two and half minutes in. The Bobcats then rattled off 12 unanswered goals before USM struck again. Bates took a 16-2 lead at the half and never looked back.
Flynn, who registered one of four Bobcat hat tricks in the contest, is the first Bates player to reach the 100-point mark for her career since Lydia Langford '97. Senior co-captain Jen Sall (Devon, Pa.) led all scorers with four goals and two assists for six points. Flynn picked up the milestone point assisting Sall's third goal of the game at the 20:23 mark of the first half. She and rookie Carrie Smith (Chevy Chase, Md.) each recorded three goals and an assist, while sophomore Staci Bafford (Severna Park, Md.) also had three goals. Sophomore Lauren Desiderio (Washington, D.C.) led all players with three assists.
Southern Maine got all three of their goals from junior attack Jen Young (Middlebury, Vt.). Sophomore Stephanie Slater (Acton, Mass.) had 10 saves in the losing effort.
