Bates 11, Connecticut College 8 #20 BATES WOMEN UPEND #18 CONNECTICUT COLLEGE, 11-8 NEW LONDON, Conn. Senior midfielder Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) scored three goals - including the 100th of her career - to help lead the 20th ranked Bates women's lacrosse team to an 11-8 win over 18th ranked Connecticut College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action this afternoon. Bates took a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish on sophomore Leora Seri's (Needham, Mass.) goal just three seconds before halftime. Flynn reached her milestone one minute into the second half for her third goal of the game, putting the Bobcats ahead 6-4. Flynn's goal was part of a 3-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half that gave Bates an 8-4 advantage. The two teams then traded a pair of goals over the next five minutes to help Bates maintain a four-goal lead, 10-6, with 18 minutes remaining. The Camels (4-3, 3-2 NESCAC) would cut the deficit to 10-8 with 4:13 remaining on a goal by sophomore midfielder Justine Baruch (Golden, Colo.). Bates junior goalie Liz Coulson (Devon, Pa) made nine of her 13 saves in the second half to halt the Bobcats' (7-2, 3-2 NESCAC) two-game skid. Bates also received two goals and three assists from senior attack Jennifer Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.), while sophomore Kathrene Tiffany (Boston, Mass.) played a strong game at midfield, winning five draw controls and picking up four ground balls. Baruch, sophomore midfielder Lauren Luciano (Longmeadow, Mass.) and first-year midfielder Emily Stieff (Baltimore, Md.) each had two goals for Connecticut College, who had its three-game winning streak stopped.
