BATES WOMEN'S LAX TRIUMPHS IN SEASON OPENER, 15-8, OVER BRIDGEWATER STATE
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates College women's lacrosse team got the 2000 campaign off to a victorious start by defeating the Bridgewater State Bears, 15-8, in a neutral site game played at MIT today.
The Bobcats (1-0) jumped out to an 8-3 halftime lead and never looked back. Bridgewater State (0-3) played closer in the second half, but a Bates offense that saw five players score more than one goal was too much.
Leading the bates offense was sophomore Liz Coulson (Devon, Pa.), the team's second leading goal-scorer from a year ago, who had six points on four goals and two assists. Senior tri-captain Blaine Hudson (Madison, Conn.) also had a six-point game with two goals and four assists. Junior Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) and first-year attacker Stacy Bafford (Severna Park, Md.) had three goals each, while junior attacker Jen Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.) had two goals and two assists. Sophomores Maria Sparks (Marblehead, Mass.) and Jen Strahle (Ridgewood, N.J.) combined to make five saves in the win.
