BATES WOMEN'S LAX DROPS SEASON FINALE, 21-8, AT BOWDOIN

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior Adrienne Gratry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) scored six goals and dished out three assists, helping the Polar Bears surge to a 21-8 victory over Bates today. Gratry and the three other seniors on the team - Lael Byrnes (Salem, N.H.), Heather Hawes (Westport, Mass.) and Elizabeth MacNeil (Lincoln, Mass.) - combined for 13 of the team's 21 goals.
The Polar Bears raced out to an early 8-0 lead in the first 9:58 of the game paced by three goals and three assist by Gratry. The Polar Bears held a comfortable 10-1 lead with 6:32 remaining in the first half, but Bates (4-7) went on a 3-1 run to end the half, capped off by a Jennifer Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.) tally with 21 ticks left.
The Bobcats came out of the intermission on fire, scoring the first three goals, two by Sall, to cut the Bowdoin cushion to 11-7. Spurred by two goals each from Hawes and Kate Calise (Manhasset, N.Y.), the Polar Bears scored the next eight goals of the game for a 19-7 lead that was never threatened. Hawes ended the game with four goals and assists while Byrnes scored two and dished out three helpers and MacNeil netted a goal. Sall paced the Bobcat attack with three goals while Erin Flynn (Newton, N.J.) chipped in with two goals and two assist.
Bowdoin's Julia McCombs (Potomac, Md.) made eight saves to pick up her 10th win of the season while the Bobcats' Jennifer Strahle (Ridgewood, N.J.) made 16 stops in the loss.
