BATES WOMEN BASH THOMAS, 92-39

Fourteen of 15 members of the Bates College women's basketball team (9-0) tallied points as the Bobcats breezed past the Thomas College Terriers, 92-39, in Waterville tonight.

Three Bates players reached double figures, led by junior forward/guard Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.), who had 12 points on six-of-nine shooting from the field. First-year Sarah Williamson (Wardlaw, N.J.) had 11 points, while senior co-captain Amy Taylor (Orono, Maine) had 10. The Bobcats led 51-12 at the half and forced 39 turnovers, marking the ninth straight game they have forced at least 30 turnovers.

Coach Jim Murphy '69 notched his 75th career win, tying him with Marsha Graef for most wins in program history, though Murphy reached the plateau in 44 fewer games. The Bobcats return home for the first time in 1999 on Thursday when they host Colby.
