Emily King 00LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College senior Emily King of Lebanon, N.H., scored her 1,408th career point (situation), making her the all-time leading scorer in Bobcat history. Bates (18-3, 5-1 NESCAC) won the contest, 82-51, against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Middlebury College (14-6, 4-3).

King scored the milestone basket on a turnaround jumpshot with 14:16 remaining in the second half. King ended the game with 20 points, giving her a career total of 1,418, surpassing Sarah Bonkovsky (Class of 1997). King, who has started all 93 games in her career, became the first junior in school history to score 1,000 points when she reached the millenium mark Feb. 5, 1999 against Wesleyan University, another NESCAC foe. She is a two time All-NESCAC, All-New England and All-ECAC selection. In 1999, King earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-America status.

The Bobcats are are ranked second in New England by the New England Women's Basketball Association and fourth by the NCAA, while Middlebury is sixth in both polls. In the four years that King and fellow senior co captain Jolene Thurston of Post Mills, Vt., have been at Bates, the team boasts an 80-17 record, the winningest of any senior class, while reaching three consecutive NCAA tournaments so far.
