MACHIAS, Maine -- Three Bates College volleyball players were named to the All-Maine team, while the team, ranked No. 3 in the most recent NCAA Division III New England polls, came away with their second straight State of Maine championship.

The Bobcats opened the tournament with a convicing three-game sweep of the Hussonn College Braves despite resting their regular starting lineup, 15-5, 15-3, 15-9. The Bobcats played well at the net, hitting .429 as a team Junior Amanda Webb (E. Greenbush, N.Y.), returning from injury, led the team with 10 kills and just one error in 15 attacks, while sophomore middle hitter Lisa Dulude (Wellesley, Mass.) was seven for 10. In just her second match of the season, first-year outside hitter Morgan Duffault (Portland, Ore.) had seven kills in 16 attempts. Sophomore Adina Mori (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 27 assists in place of regular setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.)

In the semifinals, the Bobcats also had no problem with the University of Southern Maine, winning 15-1, 15-8, 15-0. Senior middle hitter Amanda Colby (Williamantic, Conn.) dominated the first game of the match, while first-year outside hitter Katie Burke (Canton, Mass.) tied a school and NCAA Division III record in the final game by serving 15 consecutive points. Senior outside hitter Carly Dell'Ova (Derry, N.H.) led the Bobcats with a .500 hitting percentage in the match.

Bates wrapped up their second straight state title with a three-game win over Colby, their third victory over the White Mules this season. The entire front line led the way in a 15-11 first game, while a tip by sophomore Lauren Fennessey (Joplin, Mo.) turned the tide in the second game, 15-5. The Bobcats cruised to the third game win, 15-8. Fennessey had 14 digs and eight kills in the match, while Amanda Colby had 14 kills. Webb had six blocks in the championship match (1 solo).

At the awards ceremony following the opening round of matches, the Bobcats earned All-State honors. Senior middle hitter Amanda Colby (Willimantic, Conn.) earned her third All-State honor and was named Maine Player of the Year. Junior setter Kate Hagstrom earned her third All-State honor as well, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Fennessey (Joplin, Mo.) earned her first award. Hagstrom and Dell'Ova were named to the All-Tournament team.
