The Bobcats (33-6) won their fourth ECAC title (1989, 1990, 1998, 1999) behind the play of junior setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.), who was named ECAC tournament MVP for the second time in as many years. Hagstrom had 13 kills in 30 attempts, 128 assists, 24 digs and four service aces in the three matches combined. With a raucous Alumni Gym crowd supporting them, Bates won all nine games they played, posting the only three 3-0 wins in the championships. In the semifinals, the Bobcats (32-6) dispatched NESCAC foe Middlebury College (22-8) for the fourth time this season Bates jumped out to a 12-3 lead in game one of the match, but Middlebury rallied to win seven points in a row, cutting the lead to 12-10.
