BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team opened its second NESCAC round robin weekend with a resounding three-game win over Bowdoin that included a 30-9 second game. Sophomore OH Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) led the Bobcats with 13 kills, while rookie OH Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) had 13 digs. The win extended Bates' winning streak against teams from Maine to 35 straight matches.

On the second day, the Bobcats fell to defending NESCAC champions Amherst in three straight. Bates was unable to bounce back from a tough 31-29 loss in Game one. Wanless added 13 kills and five service aces in the match, while senior OH Lauren Fennessey (Joplin, Mo.) had 19 digs and eight kills. In the second match of the afternoon, Bates dropped a close match to Tufts, losing 15-10 in the fifth game. Wanless had 19 kills in the match, while Zurek and Fennessey each had 12. First-year setter Kristen Johnson(Denver, Colo.) added 48 assists, two shy of her career-high.
