They then defeated the host Bridgewater State Bears, 3-0, in the title match. Fennessey helped clinch the title match with 17 kills, 15 digs and two service aces. Co-captain Katie Burke (Canton, Mass.) added 16 digs, while rookie setter Kristen Johnson (Denver, Colo.) contributed 39 assists in a rematch of last season's first round NCAA tournament match-up In the day's first match, Bates topped Wheaton, avenging one of their three losses of the season. Sophomore OH Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) led the team with 16 kills, while first-year OH Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) had a terrific defensive match with 11 digs. She also had three aces. Johnson added 25 assists. The Bates College volleyball opened its second invitational tournament of the season, dropping Eastern Connecticut State and Clark University in three straight games each on the opening night of the Bridgewater State Invitational. Sophomore outside hitter Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) recorded 17 kills in each match. Fennessey added 12 kills against ECSU and eight aces and 16 digs against Clark. First-year setter Kristen Johnson (Denver, Colo.) had 32 assists against Eastern Conn. and 33 against Clark in a mtach that ended near 11 p.m.
