BATES VOLLEYBALL WINS CBB OPENER, 3-0, OVER BOWDOIN

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team (12-2) extended its home winning streak to 17 matches tonight with a decisive 3-0 victory over CBB rival Bowdoin College (5-8).

The Bobcats (12-2), who have not lost at home since 1998, fell behind early in the first game of the match, 5-4. Bates rallied to win 11 of the next 12 points, and the Bobcats carried the momentum for the rest of the match, cruising to the 15, 6, 15-0, 15-2, victory.

Bates junior outside hitter Lauren Fennessey (Joplin, Mo.), coming off her NESCAC Player of the Week performance, registered 11 kills and just one error in 12 attacks for an .833 hitting percentage. She also recorded three service aces and three digs. Rookie middle hitter Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) had seven kills and four aces in support.

Bowdoin (5-8) was staked to its early lead by seniors Jamie Bennett (Marlborough, Mass.) and Ellen Bates (Southampton, N.Y.) with two kills each.
