UMF 7, Bates 3

A strong Maine-Farmington (19-6) took advantage of Bates (8-8) errors to sweep a doubleheader at Russell Street Field, 7-6 and 7-3.

In the first game, the Beavers scored five runs in the third inning on four Bates errors, three walks and just one hit. The Bobcats made the game interesting, scoring two runs in each of the final three innings, but UMF made a sixth inning insurance run hold up.

In the second game, the Beavers ended three Bates rallies with double plays. Bates scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on junior 1B Abbey DeRocker (Queensbury, N.Y.) two-run double. The Beavers answered with five in the top of the second and then allowed just four hits the rest of the way. Derocker finished the day with three hits, two of which were doubles, and three RBI. Seven of UMF's 14 runs on the afternoon were unearned.
