LEXOW RECORDS FIRST COLLEGIATE WINS AS BATES SWEEPS MAINE-PRESQUE ISLE LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore 3B Laura Lent (Clinton, Mass.) reached base safely in all eight plate appearances in a doubleheader, including her first three career home runs, as the Bates College Bobcats (2-3) swept a twin-bill from the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls (), 11-3 and 22-0, giving head coach Gwen Lexow her first collegiate head-coaching victory. In game one of the double header, Lent reached base on three walks, and recorded a stolen base. In game two, she was 5-5 with five runs scored, two doubles, three home runs (including an inside-the-park round tripper) and a school-record nine RBI. Sophomore CF Anna Wulffleff (Wesport, Conn.) also had a big game in the opener, going 3-4 with three RBI, one run scored and a double. Senior pitcher Backi Gasior (Park Ridge, N.J.) allowed no earned runs and just one hit while striking out four and walking three in picking up her first win of the season. Every Bates starter scored at least one run in the second game. The Bobcats also got a homer from senior Abbey DeRocker (Queensbury, N.Y.), the fourth of her career. First-year SS Whitney Hammill (Watertown, Conn.) was 3-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and two doubles, while senior 2b Emily Morningstar (West Newton, Mass.) was 3-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Jen Crawford (Southborough, Mass.) picked up the win by allowing just three hits in five innings of work.
