COLBY SWEEPS CBB DOUBLEHEADER FROM BATES

LEWISTON, Maine -- Colby College first-year outfielder Kim Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) had six hits in two game sout of the leadoff spot as the White Mules (20-12) swept a doubleheader from the Bates College Bobcats (9-12), taking the first game, 14-8, and the nightcap, 6-4.

Although the Bobcats jumped out to a 4-2 lead after two innings in game one, Colby got to Bates hurler Becki Gasior (Park Ridge, N.J.) late, scoring 11 runs in the final three innings. Chadwick led the way for the Mules, going 4-6 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and thre RBI. First-year infielder Marcy Wagner (Norton, Mass.) tagged Gasior for her third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the seventh inning to help ice the contest. Bates was led by sophomore outfielder Anna Wulffleff (Wilton, Conn.), who was 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Gasior, who was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI, despite taking the loss. Colby hurler Steph Greenleaf (Gardiner, Maine) evened her her record at 7-7.

In game two, Colby jumped out to a 4-0 lead after Chadwick picked up a two-run single in the third and a one-run single in the fourth. The Bobcats answered with two in the bottom of the fourth with RBI ground balls by first-year infielder Kim Bosse (Auburn, Maine) and senior rightfielder Liz Grace (Brooklyn, N.Y.), cutting the lead to 4-2. The White Mules tacked on a run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk and another in the seventh on an RBI double by first-year OF Kate Dalton (Atkinson, N.H.), taking a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Bobcat junior CF Shannon Browher (Laconia, N.H.) rounded the bases in the bottom of that inning, beating out a bunt single and completing the circuit on a throwing error that got by the outfield, but three hard-hit balls later, the White Mules completed the sweep, raising sophomore Brooke Fitzsimmons' (Rehoboth, Mass.) record to 13-5. Bates sophomore Jen Crawford (Southborough, Mass.) drops to 4-6 with the loss.
