BRANDEIS HALTS BATES' THREE-GAME WIN STREAK WITH DH SWEEP WALTHAM, Mass. - Facing a team with much more game experience in 1999, the Bates College softball team (9-7) dropped a doubleheader on the road to the Brandeis University Judges (25-12) today, snapping a three-game winning streak for the Bobcats. In game one, a 4-0 Brandeis victory, senior hurler Becki Gasior (Park Ridge, N.J.) allowed just one earned run in six innings of work, but the Bates offense was shut down, getting just five hits, two by senior 2B Emily Morningstar (W. Newton, Mass.). The Judges took game two 8-2, touching sophomore pitcher Jen Crawford (Soutborough, Mass.) for six runs in the first inning. Gasior came on in relief in the second and kept the Brandeis bats relatively quiet, but the Bates offense scraped five hits, including back-to-back doubles in the seventh by sophomore 3B Laura Lent (Clinton, Mass.) and junior CF Shannon Browher (Laconia, N.H.) which produced a run.
