BATES SOFTBALL POSTS FOURTH STRAIGHT DH SPLIT
Bobcats rally to take nightcap against Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Plymouth State College and Bates College split a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at D & M Park, with the Panthers winning the opener 2-1 and the Bobcats taking the nightcap, 5-3.

Plymouth State (15-9-2) rookie pitcher Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) allowed only four hits and an unearned run in the opener to register the win, improving her record to 12-4. The only run she surrendered to Bates came in the sixth inning when junior pitcher Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) tripled and came home on a passed ball. The Panthers scored their first run in the fourth inning when Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Steph Marsland (Cumberland, R.I.). PSC tallied the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth when pinch hitter Michelle Dubois (Auburn, Maine) singled and came around to score after a sacrifice bunt by Marsland and a Bates infield throwing error.

Bates(5-14) came back in the nightcap, taking a 5-0 lead before holding on for the win. Sophomore C Cami Dyson (Arvada, Colo.) had a pair of RBI singles and first-year 2B Erin Foye (New London, Conn.) contributed an RBI double. Sophomore LF Kelley Kugel (Concord, N.H.) also scored a run for Bates on a double steal, and Dyson came home for the Bobcats' final run on a PSC outfield error. Plymouth State made a game of it with a run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth. Freshman Sara Madden (Londonderry, N.H.) had a run-scoring single in the fourth, and junior Adriene Harvey (Nantucket, Mass.) and Metz added back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth. Rookie hurler Sara Klenakis (Springfield, Mass.) held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the win in relief for the Bobcats, improving her record to 2-4.
