Game 1: Bates 6, Middlebury 2 SOFTBALL BOUNCES BACK TO SWEEP MIDDLEBURY MIDDLEBURY, Vt. The Bates College softball team improved to 2-2 in its current eight-game stretch as the Bobcats (9-12) swept a doubleheader from the host Middlebury College Panthers (4-13), 6-2 in the first game and 2-1 in the nightcap. After scoring single runs in the first and fourth innings in game one, the Bobcats batted around in the fifth, scoring for runs to blow the game open. Senior Laura Lent (Clinton, Mass.) and rookie Cami Dyson (Arvada, Colo.) hit back-to-back doubles to start the inning. Dyson was the team's lone multiple hitter, going 2-4 with a rnu and an RBI, while Lent had two RBI. Sophomore hurler Ginger Walsh (Hopkinton, N.H.) allowed 13 hits but only two runs for her third win of the season. Middlebury's Catherine Shieffelin went 2-3 with a walk and run scored for the Panthers. Senior centerfielder Anna Wulffleff (Wilton, Conn.) led the Bobcat charge in game two. She went 3-3 with a double, a stolen base while scoring the Bobcats' only two runs. She scored on a booted ball hit by rookie rightfielder Sara Levine (Leeds, Mass.) in the second inning and RBI single by first-year 1B Amanda Beck (Pleasantville, N.Y.) in the sixth for what proved to be the winning run. Sophomore pitcher Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) won her fifth game, allowing just seven hits and one earned run while striking out three.
