Williams Carnival BOBCATS TAKE SIXTH AT WILLIAMS WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. The Bates skiing teams had their best first-day performance of the season at the Williams Carnival Feb. 15-16, trailing rival Williams by just three points heading into Day 2, but the Bobcats could not hold onto the momentum and finished in sixth place for the fifth week in a row. The Bobcats were boosted on Day 1 by another fine performance from the women's Nordic team. Sophomore Haley Johnson (Lake Placid, N.Y.) continued to impress by finishing second in 10K classical for the second week in a row. Junior captain Jane Marshall (Boise, Idaho) had her best performance of the season, coming in 15th, while sophomore Abbie Harris (Derby Line, Vt.) came in 19th, the first time all of coach Becky Woods' top women have finished in the top 20. Junior captain Justin Easter (Jay, Maine) turned yet another top 10 finish in the classical event, his seventh in as many solo races. Unfortunately, neither the men or the women could continue their success into the second day as the women finished eighth in the 3x5 freestyle relay and the men came in 12th overall. On the alpine side, senior captain Jo-Ellen Rowley (Milton, Vt.) led the way for the women with a 17th-place finish in the GS and 19th in the slalom. For the men, classmate Kyle Hildebrand (Waitsfield, Vt.) took 11th in the GS, but missed a gate in the slalom, earning a disqualification. Complete results from EISASkiing.org
