DYSON NAMED TO ALL-NESCAC SOFTBALL SECOND TEAM

LEWISTON, Maine —Bates College sophomore Cami Dyson of Arvada, Colo., has been selected to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference softball second team.

Cami Dyson '04Dyson started all 33 games for the Bobcats this season, splitting time at catcher and designated player. She led the team in hitting with a .427 average (44-103), second best in the NESCAC. She also topped the squad with 44 hits, nine doubles and a .515 slugging percentage. Dyson tied for the team lead with 13 RBI and posted a .983 fielding percentage, committing just two errors in 120 total chances.

Dyson hit safely in 27 of 33 games, including a 14-game hitting streak from April 6 to April 23, a stretch in which she hit .532 (25-47). She had 16 multi-hit games, including three-for-four performance April 7 against NESCAC rival Middlebury in which she scored twice and doubled in a 10-6 Bobcat victory. Dyson also drove in the game-winning run in Bobcat victories over Babson April 14 and Plymouth State April 17. She drove in three teammates in a 9-1 win at Brandeis University April 27, a 9-1 Bobcat victory.

"Cami was by far our most consistent hitter this season," head coach Gwen Lexow said. "She will be feared at the plate for the rest of her career."

Bates finished the 2002 season with a 6-27 record, 1-7 NESCAC. Eighteen of the Bobcats' games were decided by three runs or less, including 10 one-run games. This marked the first time in three years the Bobcats did not improve the school record for wins in a season.

Dyson is a 2000 graduate of Arvada West High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Sally Dyson, Arvada, Colo.
