FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LUOMA NAMED NESCAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK LEWISTON, Maine Bates College junior forward Brian Luoma of Virginia Beach, Va., has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 22. Luoma registered two goals and one assist in a 2-0 week for the Bobcats. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 Bates victory over University of Maine-Farmington on October 18. Then on Saturday, October 20, he assisted on the tying goal and added an insurance goal in the Bobcats 4-1 over Connecticut College. The five-point week moved Luoma into second place on the team in scoring with nine points (4 g, 1 a). He now has 16 goals in his career to go along with two assists. Overall, Bates has a 6-4-2 record, and is undefeated in its last five games (3-0-2). The Bobcats were ranked tenth in the most recent New England poll, marking the first time this season the team has been ranked. Bates wraps up its season this week against in-state rivals Bowdoin, ranked fifth in New England, and Colby with a berth into the NESCAC tournament on the line. Luoma is the son of Stephen and Sharon Luoma, Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is a 1999 graduate of Cape Henry Collegiate High School.
