BATES MEN'S SOCCER HANGS IN NSCAA NATIONAL DIVISION III MEN'S SOCCER POLL

LEWISTON, Maine -- For the second week in a row, the Bates College men's soccer team (3-1, 1-1 NESCAC) earned a national ranking by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America.

Coach George Purgavie's squad held on to the 24th spot in the national poll despite suffering their first loss of the season, 2-1, to Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday. The Bobcats also posted a 9-0 win over St. Joseph's College last Wednesday. Among Bates' victories this season is a 2-1 win over No. 22 Amherst College on Sept. 16.

Bates is led by senior midfielder Bryan Stevens (Southwick, Mass.), who has three goals this season. Eight different Bobcats have scored goals as the team has outscored opponents, 13-3. Junior goalkeeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) is fifth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a 0.85 goals-against average.
